General insurance services for vehicles and other needs
General insurance protects the things you own and the risks you meet day to day. We help with motor and vehicle insurance, other general insurance requirements and renewals, and stay available for policy support afterwards.
What general insurance covers
General insurance is the group of policies that sit apart from life insurance. It includes motor, health, travel, home and property, and commercial covers. This page covers motor and vehicle insurance and other general insurance needs. Health insurance and life insurance have their own pages.
Motor insurance
In India a motor vehicle used in a public place must carry at least third-party liability insurance under the Motor Vehicles Act. Beyond that minimum, the choices are yours.
Third-party cover
Pays for injury, death or property damage caused to other people by your vehicle. It is the legal minimum.
Comprehensive cover
Adds protection for damage to your own vehicle, such as accidents, fire, theft or natural calamities, on top of third-party cover. Terms and exclusions apply.
Insured Declared Value (IDV)
The amount on which your own-damage cover is based. It reflects the vehicle's market value and falls as the vehicle ages.
Add-ons
Options such as zero depreciation, engine protection, roadside assistance and consumables cover, available on some policies for an extra premium.
No Claim Bonus (NCB)
A discount on the own-damage premium for each claim-free year. Ask how it carries over when you renew or change insurer.
Third-party and comprehensive at a glance
Vehicle insurance
We assist with insurance for two-wheelers and cars, and for other vehicle types on request. Requirements differ, for example between a private car and a vehicle used for business, so we ask how the vehicle is used before we suggest a policy.
For a new vehicle we compare the policy options at the time of purchase. For an existing vehicle we review the current policy and the cover you actually need.
Other general insurance requirements
Beyond motor cover, individuals and businesses often need other protection. Depending on what insurers offer, we can discuss:
Travel insurance
Cover for medical emergencies, trip disruption and baggage on domestic and international travel, as offered by the insurer.
Home and property insurance
Protection for a home and its contents against events such as fire, subject to the policy terms.
Shop and office insurance
Cover for premises, stock and equipment used in a business.
Personal accident insurance
A benefit for accidental injury or death, on its own or alongside other policies.
If your need is not listed here, ask us. We will tell you whether we can help.
Renewal assistance
Motor and other general policies run for a fixed period and need to be renewed before they expire. A gap in cover can leave you uninsured. For a vehicle it can also mean an inspection before renewal and a change in your No Claim Bonus.
Bring your previous policy and your vehicle details. We review the cover, compare current options and help you renew before the expiry date.
Policy support
After you buy, we can help you read the policy schedule, understand what to do after an incident and gather documents for a claim. In general, inform the insurer promptly and keep photographs, repair estimates and, where required, a police report.
Claims are assessed and settled by the insurer under the policy terms. We do not decide claims and cannot promise an outcome or a timeline.

Frequently asked questions
Is motor insurance compulsory?
Yes. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a motor vehicle used in a public place must have at least third-party liability insurance. Driving without valid insurance can lead to penalties.
What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive insurance?
Third-party insurance covers harm caused to other people and their property. Comprehensive insurance includes that and also covers damage to your own vehicle, subject to the policy terms and exclusions.
What is IDV and why does it matter?
IDV is the Insured Declared Value, the basis for own-damage claims such as total loss or theft. Setting it too low reduces your payout, and setting it too high raises your premium. We help you choose a fair figure.
What happens if my motor policy expires?
Your vehicle is uninsured until you renew. The insurer may ask for an inspection, and you may lose part of your No Claim Bonus. Renew before the expiry date.
Which documents do I need to renew a motor policy?
Usually the registration certificate of the vehicle and details of the previous policy. The insurer may ask for more, depending on the case.
